Social Environmental Agency (SEA)

SEA is a non-profit and non-political organization established in April 2017 to respond to the needs of returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and vulnerable host communities in Jubaland, South West State (SWS), and the Banadir Region of Somalia. The organization operates with its headquarters in Kismayo and sub-branch offices in Mogadishu, Baidoa, and Afmadow.

SEA's main responsibilities include providing protection and livelihood assistance, response planning and preparedness, implementation, advocacy, and coordination for refugees, returnees, IDPs, and vulnerable host communities. They collaborate with the World Food Programme (WFP) since 2019 to implement relief projects such as food voucher distribution, cash-based transfers, and Vocational Food For Training (VFT) programs for vulnerable individuals, including youths and host communities.

Additionally, SEA has a partnership with the German development agency GIZ for a livelihood project in Gobweyn village focused on sesame oil production. This project aims to provide skills training, equipment, and marketing linkages for local farmers to enhance their economic well-being. SEA works with the Ministry of Jubbaland Chamber of Commerce (JCC) to facilitate marketing opportunities for the farmers.

Through their interventions over the past 6 years, SEA has made a significant impact on vulnerable families in Jubaland, SWS, and the Banadir Region. By addressing immediate needs, promoting sustainable livelihoods, and fostering resilience, SEA strives to rebuild lives, restore hope, and contribute to the social and economic development of the communities they serve.

Mission Statement

To save lives by providing relief, resilience and developments to vulnerable communities living across Somalia by advocating for sufficient and effective humanitarian aid services while promoting and protecting equality, social justice and human rights for all.

WHAT WE DO

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)

SEA works towards the construction and rehabilitation of water sources, such as wells, boreholes, and water storage systems, to provide safe and reliable water supply to communities.

Food Security and Livelihoods

SEA (Social Environmental Agency) is committed to addressing the challenges of food security and livelihoods in Jubaland, South West, and Banadir regions.

Agricultural development

Through our agricultural development initiatives, SEA aims to empower local farmers, increase agricultural productivity, and improve income opportunities.

Primary Health

Through our primary health initiatives, SEA strives to improve health outcomes, reduce the prevalence of diseases, and enhance the overall well-being of individuals and communities.

Vocational Trainings

By offering vocational training, SEA aims to reduce unemployment, alleviate poverty, and promote economic self-sufficiency within the communities we serve.

Emergency Response

We work in close partnership with other humanitarian organizations, local authorities, and community leaders to ensure a comprehensive and efficient response.

Fisheries Development

SEA supports sustainable fisheries development by strengthening the livelihoods of coastal communities through capacity building, provision of fishing equipment, cold-chain support, value addition, and promotion of responsible fishing practices that protect marine ecosystems.
